Mike Leigh, OBE, geboren am 20. Februar 1943 in Salford, Greater Manchester, ist ein britischer Film- und Theaterregisseur sowie Autor. Er studierte an der Royal Academy of Dramatic Art und setzte seine Ausbildung an der Camberwell School of Art und der Central School of Art and Design fort. Mitte der 1960er-Jahre begann er als Theaterregisseur und Dramatiker, später arbeitete er auch für das BBC-Fernsehen. Zu seinen bekanntesten Filmen gehören „Naked“, für den er in Cannes den Preis für die Beste Regie erhielt, „Secrets & Lies“ und „Vera Drake“. Für seine Arbeit wurde er außerdem mit dem BAFTA für die Beste Regie ausgezeichnet und für den Oscar in den Kategorien Beste Regie und Bestes Originaldrehbuch nominiert.
